At EM-Power Europe 2025, Copa-Data will be demonstrating how the software platform Zenon optimizes hybrid energy systems and drives the digitalization of substations. As the energy industry undergoes rapid change, companies are increasingly turning to hybrid infrastructures. These combine traditional power generation with renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and battery storage. However, integrating new and existing systems from different manufacturers is challenging. To manage brownfield and greenfield systems together as efficiently as possible, energy suppliers need centralized solutions. “Zenon addresses this need by enabling real-time monitoring, automation and optimization, bridging the gap between legacy infrastructure and modern energy management”, says Stefan Hufnagl, Industry Specialist Energy at Copa-Data.

The motto of the 2025 EM-Power event is “Empowering Grids and Prosumers” and it is dedicated to the future of intelligent energy systems. The focus is on the transition to flexible, digitized smart grids and the integration of prosumer models, e-mobility and power-to-heat solutions for a sustainable energy future. The Copa-Data team will be on hand to demonstrate the capabilities of the independent software solution, zenon, for the improved operation of large-scale renewable energy plants. These include photovoltaic power plants, battery energy storage systems (BESS), onshore and offshore wind power, and hybrid microgrids.

Intelligent software for the energy industry

The intelligent platform overcomes many of the current challenges in power generation and transmission. At EM-Power 2025, the company will be demonstrating how its flexible automation software helps to bridge personnel and skills shortages without in-depth programming knowledge. It will also demonstrate a vendor-independent architecture that enables the integration of energy assets by supporting over 300 communication protocols. This ensures efficient data processing and optimization for operators.

Transition from conventional to digital substations

The software also facilitates the transition from conventional to digitalized substations. With long-standing support for IEC 61850, the industry standard for digitalized substations, Zenon enables operators to modernize their infrastructure by integrating conventional substation equipment into digital systems.

Software for seamless integration across all energy and infrastructure processes

Economic and legal changes in the energy industry also require a strategic realignment. “To remain competitive and economically viable, companies must continuously modernize their processes and systems, drive the digitalization and automation of core assets and break down information silos that persist in the industry. This foundation is essential for creating efficient, proactive and future-ready businesses,” explains Stefan Hufnagl.

Jürgen Resch, Director Industry Management Energy at Copa-Data, adds: “Zenon offers seamless integration across all energy and infrastructure processes and assets at every level of the grid. Its design philosophy ensures that standalone solutions can be effortlessly combined into a unified management system, requiring minimal effort while delivering invaluable synergies for users.”

Automation software for integrating decentralized energy resources

"The transition to renewable energy comes with unique challenges, and zenon empowers the energy sector by optimizing energy production and distribution. As the industry moves toward a cleaner, more sustainable future, automation plays a crucial role in integrating Distributed Energy Resources like solar, wind, and battery storage. Our technology not only keeps pace with this transformation but actively drives it forward,” concludes Industry Specialist Energy Lewis Williams. You will find Copa-Data at EM-Power 2025 in Munich in Hall B5 at booth B5.356.
