Viet UC Mechanics Polymer, a Vietnamese manufacturer of plastic materials, specializes in the production of masterbatch, plastic additives, pigments, PVC additives and plastic resins. The company was faced with the challenge of eliminating metallic impurities in the masterbatch. This is to prevent particles from entering the plastic mixtures during production. These impurities could not only affect the quality of the end product. They also cause machine downtime and customer complaints. To ensure the quality and purity of their products, it was necessary to find a reliable metal detector that is sensitive enough to detect and remove even the smallest metallic particles (ferrous 0.39 millimeters, non-ferrous 0.5 millimeters, stainless steel 0.5 millimeters). They also had to ensure that the solution would work effectively with challenging product effects, such as dark coloration, especially black masterbatch.
Metal separator for reliable and precise metal separation
After a thorough market analysis, Viet UC decided to implement the Rapid Vario metal separator from Sesotec. The device has been specially developed to detect and separate metallic contaminants in bulk materials, even if they are deeply embedded in the product. The unit is characterized by high sensitivity, easy integration into existing production lines and reliable performance. The Sesotec solution included a feature that automatically or manually adjusts to different product effects. These can be, for example, electrical conductivity and color variations in black material.
In the plastics industry, the masterbatch can contribute to the product effect. This is because some additives or fillers can make it more difficult to detect metal contaminants or affect the detector. Metal detectors and separators are designed to be sensitive enough to detect metal contaminants while compensating for the product effect as much as possible. These systems were installed at Viet UC before filling into 25-kilogram bags to ensure that the products are consistently free of metal. The first unit was installed in September 2023, followed by a second unit in May 2024.
